Tour Overview

Climb Kilimanjaro via the 5-Day Marangu Route

The Marangu Route, widely known as the "Coca-Cola" Route, is the oldest and most established path on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is unique in that it is the only route offering comfortable A-frame mountain huts equipped with solar lighting and comfortable beds, making it the premier choice for trekkers who prefer to avoid sleeping in tents.

This 5-day itinerary is the shortest and fastest way to reach the summit via Marangu. Because it skips the acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, it is highly demanding and recommended strictly for trekkers who are already acclimatized to high altitudes or possess an exceptional level of physical fitness. You will be fully supported by our elite mountain crew throughout this rapid ascent.

Your Journey

5-Day Marangu Route Itinerary

A fast-paced, direct ascent bypassing the standard acclimatization day, designed to take you straight to Uhuru Peak.

Day 01

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

We head to the Marangu Gate for the necessary formalities before beginning our trek. The trail climbs steadily through a tropical rainforest near the upper edge of the forest line, where we sometimes see playful blue monkeys. The trail then widens, exposing beautiful hillsides until we reach Mandara Hut.

Rain Forest 6,046ft to 8,858ft 8 km (4-5 hrs)
Day 02

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Our second day on the trail begins with a steep ascent out of the forest, opening into high moorland and heath. If the sky is clear, we may get our first spectacular views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks—two of the three volcanic peaks that make up the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Heath 8,858ft to 12,205ft 12 km (6-8 hrs)
Day 03

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Today we climb gradually, crossing the lunar-like desert of the "Saddle" situated between Mawenzi and Kibo. We eventually reach our campsite at Kibo Hut, which sits directly at the bottom of the crater wall. Once at camp, we rest, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Alpine Desert 12,205ft to 15,430ft 10 km (6-8 hrs)
Day 04

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Point to Horombo Hut

We wake in the middle of the night and begin the final push to reach the Roof of Africa. The ascent to Gilman’s Point is very steep, slow, and steady. From there, we traverse the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. After celebrating, we retrace our steps all the way back down past Kibo to rest at Horombo Hut.

Arctic 15,430ft to 19,341ft to 12,205ft 22 km (10-13 hrs)
Day 05

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

A long trek is in store for today; however, it is mostly downhill through the returning rainforest canopy. Once at the park headquarters at Marangu Gate, successful climbers pick up their achievement certificates and catch our vehicle transfer back to the hotel in Moshi.

Rain Forest 12,205ft to 6,046ft 20 km (5-7 hrs)
