Tour Overview

Climb Kilimanjaro via the 6-Day Lemosho Route

The 6-Day Lemosho Route is a condensed, high-intensity version of one of Kilimanjaro's most beautiful paths. By combining specific trekking days—such as pushing straight from Forest Camp to Shira 2, and from Barranco to Barafu—this itinerary requires a significantly higher level of physical fitness and stamina than its 7 or 8-day counterparts.

While the pace is demanding, climbers are rewarded with the Lemosho route's signature pristine wilderness, lower initial crowds, and spectacular panoramic views. You will be fully supported by our elite mountain crew, ensuring premium tented comfort and high-energy meals to sustain you through long trekking days.

Your Journey

6-Day Lemosho Route Itinerary

An intense, fast-paced journey that condenses traditional stages, demanding endurance while delivering unparalleled alpine scenery.

Day 01

Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

We depart Moshi for a 4-hour drive to Londorossi Gate to complete entry formalities, followed by another hour's drive to the Lemosho trailhead. After a prepared lunch, we begin our trek through a dense, undisturbed rainforest that winds steadily to our first camp.

Rain Forest 7,800ft to 9,500ft 6 km (3-4 hrs)
Day 02

Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

A demanding day that combines two standard stages. We exit the forest into a savannah of tall grasses and heather. Ascending rolling hills, we cross Shira Ridge and drop to Shira 1. Without stopping for the night, we continue our gentle walk east across the plateau to Shira 2, enjoying amazing views of Kibo's glaciered peak.

Moorland 9,500ft to 12,500ft 18 km (8-10 hrs)
Day 03

Shira Camp 2 to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

From the Shira Plateau, we trek east up a rocky ridge, turning southeast toward Lava Tower (16,000ft), also known as the "Shark’s Tooth." After reaching the tower, we descend into the Barranco Valley. This massive fluctuation in altitude is a critical "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization day.

Semi Desert 12,500ft to 13,000ft 10 km (6-8 hrs)
Day 04

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Another challenging combined day. We begin by scaling the steep Barranco Wall. Once over, we cross the Karanga Valley, but rather than camping, we push directly up to Barafu Hut. You have now completed the South Circuit. We establish camp early on this bleak ridge to rest and prepare for the midnight summit bid.

Alpine Desert 13,000ft to 15,300ft 9 km (8-10 hrs)
Day 05

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut

Between midnight and 2am, we begin our intense ascent through heavy scree toward Stella Point (18,600ft) for a magnificent sunrise. The final snowy hour brings us to Uhuru Peak—the true Roof of Africa. After celebrating, we descend rapidly straight down to Mweka Hut, stopping briefly at Barafu for lunch.

Arctic / Scree 5 km up / 12 km down 11-14 hours total
Day 06

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

Following our last mountain breakfast, we continue the descent through the lush rainforest to the Mweka Park Gate. Here, successful climbers receive their certificates. The lower trail can be wet and muddy. At the gate, a vehicle awaits to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.

Forest 10,150ft to 5,500ft 10 km (3-4 hrs)
