The Marangu Route, affectionately known as the "Coca-Cola" Route, is the oldest and most established path on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is unique in that it is the only route offering comfortable A-frame mountain huts equipped with solar lighting and comfortable beds, making it the premier choice for trekkers who prefer to avoid sleeping in tents.
Unlike the standard 5-day version, this 6-day itinerary includes a critical acclimatization day at Horombo Hut. This extra time allows your body to adjust to the altitude by hiking toward Mawenzi Hut and back, significantly increasing your chances of a successful summit while enjoying a premium, fully supported experience with our elite mountain crew.

We head to the Marangu Gate for the necessary formalities before beginning our trek. The trail climbs steadily through a lush, tropical rainforest near the upper edge of the forest line, where we occasionally spot playful blue monkeys. The trail then widens, exposing beautiful hillsides as we reach Mandara Hut.
Our second day begins with a steep ascent out of the forest canopy, opening up into high moorland and heath. Weather permitting, this terrain offers our first breathtaking views of Kibo and Mawenzi—two of the three volcanic peaks that make up the summit of Kilimanjaro.
This extra day is strictly utilized for acclimatization, a crucial factor in summit success. We embark on a hike toward the jagged peaks of Mawenzi Hut before returning to Horombo Hut to sleep. This unique landscape offers motivating panoramas and helps your body adjust to the altitude safely.
Today we climb gradually, traversing the stark, lunar-like desert of the "Saddle" situated between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. We eventually reach our campsite at Kibo Hut, which sits directly at the bottom of the crater wall. We rest here, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit push.
We wake in the middle of the night to begin the final push to the Roof of Africa. The ascent to Gilman’s Point is steep, slow, and steady. From there, we traverse the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. After celebrating and taking photos, we retrace our steps down the mountain, continuing all the way past Kibo to rest at Horombo Hut.
A long trek is in store today, though it is mostly a gentle downhill walk through the returning rainforest canopy. Once we arrive at the park headquarters at Marangu Gate, successful climbers pick up their achievement certificates and meet our vehicle transfer back to the hotel in Moshi.
