3-Day Mount Meru Itinerary

An intense, action-packed 3-day trek combining wildlife encounters on the lower slopes with a midnight summit assault along the crater rim.

Day 01

Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)

Picked up early from your hotel in Moshi, we drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park for TANAPA registration. Accompanied by an armed park ranger, we begin a walking safari across open grasslands and forest slopes home to giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and elephants. We pass the Ngarenanyuki River and waterfalls before arriving at Miriakamba Hut for dinner and sunset.

Day 02

Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) to Saddle Hut (3,500m)

After breakfast, we ascend a steep trail along the ridge of the saddle, keeping an eye out for high-altitude wildlife. The path offers sweeping views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone. Upon reaching Saddle Hut, you have the option for an acclimatization walk up Little Mt. Meru (3,820m). An early dinner is served so you can rest by 19:00 for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 03

Saddle Hut to Summit (4,566m) to Momella Gate to Moshi

Waking at 00:30 for hot tea and biscuits, we begin our summit push at 1:30 a.m. We climb steeply past Rhino Point (3,800m) and Cobra Point (4,350m), scrambling along the rocky crater ridge. We reach Uhuru Peak (4,566m) at sunrise for stunning views of Kilimanjaro and the Ash Cone, followed by a full descent to Momella Gate and return transfer to Moshi.
