Moshi to Lake Chala
Morning: The Scenic Drive
We depart Moshi town early in the morning, heading toward Himo town via the main Taifa road. After a brief stop in Himo to stretch our legs and grab a quick snack, we continue toward the Taveta border. Shortly before the border, we veer off the tarmac onto a rugged, dusty 14km path. As we near the lake, the landscape dramatically changes into a lush evergreen forest, playing host to primates, antelopes, and occasionally elephants.
Midday: Picnic & Crater Descent
Upon reaching the rim of Lake Chala, we will find a scenic spot to enjoy a packed picnic lunch while taking in the magnificent views of the crater. Following lunch, we take a short, steep hike down the caldera walls to the water's edge.
Afternoon: Boat Ride & Return
At the lake level, you will embark on a peaceful boat ride around the caldera, exploring the steep crater walls and the deep, turquoise waters. After spending ample time relaxing and taking photos, we will ascend back to our private vehicle and begin the drive back to Moshi, arriving in the late afternoon.
