1-Day Itinerary

A physically rewarding day trip taking you deep into the rainforests of the iconic Marangu Route.

Day 01

Moshi to Mandara Hut (2,740m) & Return

Morning: Registration & Rainforest Ascent
After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, you will meet your mountain guide and drive for about 1 hour to the Kilimanjaro National Park Marangu Gate (1,700m / 5,500 ft). After completing the necessary registration, your hike commences. You will trek through a dense, towering rainforest canopy, keeping a close eye out for Eucalyptus trees and the beautiful Colobus monkeys that inhabit this zone.

Midday: Mandara Hut & Maundi Crater
After a steady 3 to 4-hour hike, you will arrive at the Mandara Hut encampment (2,740m / 9,000 ft). Here, you will rest and enjoy your packed lunch box. Following lunch, your guide will lead you on a short but highly rewarding side trip to Maundi Crater. From the rim, you can take in spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes, including glimpses of Northern Tanzania and Kenya.

Afternoon: The Descent
In the afternoon, you will begin your descent back down the same rainforest trail. The walk down is generally faster, taking about 2 to 3 hours. Upon reaching the Marangu Gate in the early evening, our vehicle will be waiting to transfer you comfortably back to your hotel in Moshi.
